Hello! I'm early today, after fighting with myself on whether or not I wanted to attempt challenge 3.

Challenge #4 - In your own space, make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, and/or that you'd like someone to create or do for you. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I'm gonna settle on three things, as mentioned in the challenge post as a possibility, because that's much easier.

1. friends who are into this otome game I've recently gotten into. I miss fandoms for this, I feel like people in the circles I see tend to shame them a bit, and I am all for 100% self indulgent shit.

2. accountability/general fic discussion friends/chats. I used to be in a group chat with some friends where we would do word wars and talk about our fics when needed, but decided to leave it after I went through some stuff and no longer enjoyed it.

3. book clubs and/or new writing challenges!

Maybe the loneliest-sounding list ever, lol! Thing is, recently I haven't been trying to find specific fancontent as much as I have been wishing for -- not quite seeking yet -- communities to share my love with.
For a while I've been mainly in isolation mode, trying to just focus on what I like for myself, but I've definitely started missing talking about stuff with people, even if we necessarily aren't into the exact same stuff. Maybe that actually makes it easier, because then there's no weirdness about maybe disagreeing over stuff, just people doing their own things, but together.

I'm definitely taking it slow with fandom friends, because right now my main focus is to just enjoy fandom, which is also why a goal of mine is looking more into developing friendships in general that I can do fandom with, not looking for specific fandom friends that I only talk to about a current interest.

I don't even have any fan content wishes per se at the moment, since I barely read as is, and I have no particular wishes about fan art or other things either.

Really excited to look into other people's posts, I think that's still my favourite part of the snowflake challenge! Even though I probably will not be of much help with getting any wishes fulfilled.

I'd recommend [community profile] getyourwordsout for writing motivation, word wars, and accountability -- it's my fourth year participating and they have been great for my writing output!

*laughs* I frequently fandom shame myself in a whole "oh my god, brain, can we not do this, whyyyyyyyyyyyy?" but that's more of a "I don't have time for more of this ridiculousness, self" than anything else. Fandom has always been 100% self indulgent for me.

I find I'm a member of more writing communities than I am fandom communities (mostly because I end up... not joining fandom communities). This might come up later in snowflake anyway, but you might find [community profile] fan_flashworks and [community profile] ushobwri good communities to check out for general writing challenge/supportive discussion. I also like 1_million_words over on livejournal, which I use using the openID feature with my DW account (and have an RSS feed onto my reading page), since LJ and I have not been friends for a looooooooong time.

Hi! I don't game, but I hope you find some folk who share your interest!

It's not really a place to chat, but I've started doing Write Every Day (WED) (though I don't actually write every day *g* o_O), and I like the opportunity to brag about the fact that I managed to word on the days I did.

If you like any small fandoms (<2,000 fic on AO3) I run a couple of challenges: [community profile] smallfandombang and [community profile] smallfandomfest.

Best of luck with your wishes!

I hope you find something you like in all the recs!

WED is the abbreviation for Write Every Day.

>> 3. book clubs and/or new writing challenges! <<

[community profile] allbingo hosts a new fest each month. All fandoms and formats are welcome.

[community profile] crowdfunding has a Creative Jam mid-month, more focused on original work, but anything is welcome.

Yay! I'm happy to hear that.

I made bingo on my January card during my Poetry Fishbowl this week. Sometimes I do, other times the fills are all scattered.

Cheers to you and your self-indulgent otome game. (I know what all the words mean, but I'm not fully sure what makes an otome game an otome game, but I don't have to know to encourage people to play things they want to play.) And for taking it show and sustainably with your fandom stuff - sometimes there's a big temptation to just drive in head first instead of building the things that last for a bit longer.

As a general fandom community with posts which are easy to participate in I recommend [community profile] fictional_fans to start talking to people.

Your list doesn't sound lonely at all! I think it's a good thing to prioritise enjoying yourself. I hope you find what you're looking for. c:

+1 [community profile] getyourwordsout! I've been doing it for years and it's a great community. It's a yearly challenge where you go at your own pace (although you need to sign up soon before they close). There are community challenges and great posts, and I think it might fulfil your wish wrt some writing discussion. They do have an active Discord server, too, if that's your jam.

+1 [community profile] fan_flashworks, too!

[community profile] fandomweekly is—you guessed it—a weekly maximum 1000 word challenge where you're given a prompt and a few days to write, and everyone's encouraged to read, comment, and vote for the one that best suited the theme for that week. Even if you're not into the whole voting/ winning a challenge thing, I find it's a great little community and the challenges can be a lot of fun, too.

Book clubs and new writing challenges are nice! There is a new drabble writing com based on emotion prompts called [community profile] emotion100, which sounds interesting.

I relate a lot to what you wrote here. I was into fandom heavily in the 2000-2014 age, then took an extended break. Coming back is hard! It's so different and hard to connect now.

Or maybe I'm doing it wrong.

But, yes. I'm also into self-indulgent, because life is a dumpster fire right now for a lot of people and why *not* enjoy something fun and indulgent?
